For the past few months, I’ve been begging for good news to share with you… and apparently good news comes in pairs!
Please join me in congratulating Taylor Pigg and David Litton who both successfully completed check rides in June! Taylor is the Carolina’s newest Private Pilot and Dave is our newest Commercial Pilot! I’m hopeful they’ll be willing to share their experience with other aspiring pilots in the near future.

Hot Air Balloons bring joy to their pilots and millions of spectators each year. This year has been challenging for so many. We’d like to help bring joy to our communities and say thank you to front-line workers who have exhibited steadfast determination during a time of great need.
In conjunction with “Lifting Spirits around the World,” Carolinas Balloon Association pilots are welcomed to launch on Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th in honor of your local heroes. Photos and videos of ascensions will be shared through social media in an effort to connect all the balloon ascensions around the world.
A Free Online Learning Opportunity
July 13-16, 2020
8:00am – Noon MST
The virtual BFA Junior Balloonist Camp will provide youth with the basic knowledge needed to begin their ballooning adventures. Topics will include Weather, Flight Operations, Aeronautical Decision Making, Navigation, FARs and Airspace, Balloon Systems, Safety (Propane, Fans, Powerlines), Types of Ballooning (Gas, Competition, Rides Sports), Technology, Repair and Maintenance as well as several open panel discussions.
We have planned lively sessions with excellent speakers from across the country with presenters who have incredible experience and knowledge. We hope to give our virtual campers a good idea of what it takes to become involved in hot air ballooning and light a spark that with evolve into a love of the sport.
Carolinas Balloon Association’s membership consists of pilots, crew and balloon enthusiasts throughout the Southeastern US…and beyond! If you love ballooning, we welcome you to join us!
