it is with great sadness we must announce that longtime CBA member Roy Smith, of Knoxville, TN, has departed this earth after a long bout with cancer. Roy fought the disease quietly, but valiantly. He leaves behind his adored daughter Amy Davis, son-in-law Steve Davis, grandsons Beaux and Spruce (his pride and joy), and his dog Stella, his constant (and spoiled) companion. He was most proud of them all. 

 

Roy has been the Balloonmeister of the National Muscadine Festival, in Sweetwater, TN, which raised money for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children). He also was a fervent supporter of the Shiloh Riders and their annual Toy Run to deliver Christmas gifts to children of families in need.

Our club will miss his kindness, our skies will miss his presence. The heavens have welcomed a special one home.

Celebration of Life for Roy Smith – First Annual Ride and Fly:

Friday Night:
• On Friday, if you plan to take part in the ride, it will start at 5:00 pm from Smokey Mountain Harley and will return to the “Shed” at SMH at 7:00 pm.

If you are going to participate in the “candle-stick” glow please be ready to burn at 7:00 PM when the riders return from the ride. Tom Roush and crew will inflate Roy’s balloon to mark the spot. Celebration video at dusk.

SMH-D will open the bar and BBQ Restaurant for our patronage Friday PM. (Might be good to throw a lawn chair in the car.)

The ride will benefit the Shiloh Riders and be made in memory of Roy. Please bring a donation as you are able. We ask that any money you might be planning on spending on flowers instead be given to Roy’s favorite passion, serving the kids. We will announce an avenue to do this a little later.

Saturday Morning: We will meet at Steve and Amy’s house to organize “Roy’s Fly-In Task”. Their address is 339 Norton Pond Dr. Maryville, TN. 37801. Be there by 6:00 am to retrieve a marker and coordinates for “Roy’s Target”. We will use Saturday evening as a back-up if needed.

Saturday Evening:
• Balloonists: Alternate weather window for any able to stick around.
• Those still in town: Bonfire at the Davis house to fellowship.
